Achilles Tendinopathy

If you are experiencing pain behind and a few centimeters above your heel, Achilles tendinopathy is a possible diagnosis that your podiatrist may be able to make. Symptoms may manifest gradually with increasing pain, and even though they are usually linked to acute trauma or chronic overuse, they may sometimes present without these causes.

Achilles tendinopathy is a tendonitis of the Achilles tendon (inflammation due to overuse and/ or irritation). It is common amongst athletes performing in less than ideal conditions for their legs and feet; such as hard training surfaces and improper shoes, experiencing tension and forces to the lower limb structures, and causing damage to the tendon. The body attempts to repair the tendon, increasing the blood vessels and nerves to the area. This is seen as swelling, and with the increased nerves comes pain.

At Southlake Podiatry we are experienced in handling sporting and biomechanical related conditions, and can employ a vast range of techniques from dry needling (acupuncture), Shock wave therapy, computer analysis of your gait so that orthotics can be made.
