'Clubfeet' or Congenital Talipes Equinovarus

This is a rigid (non-reducible or fixed, does not correct by force) congenital deformity; in fact, it is the most common birth defect. It occurs more in males, and may occur in only one lower limb as opposed to both. The child’s legs are “bowed” or turn inwards, and feet are in a twisted position facing the centerline of the body, (inverted) so that if the child walks, it is on the lateral border of the foot.Podiatrists are involved in the care and management of this condition which involves many aspects, and can also help in providing suitable orthoses, splints and serial casting.
